Date: Thursday, April 27 (6:30-8:30 p.m.)

About the event

Angell International Night is an annual event where the Angell community comes together to celebrate the school’s rich ethnic diversity. It is the largest event of its kind in the school district. Here is what you can expect this year:

  • More information about International Night:

    1. Parade of Nations

This special evening begins at 6:30pm with the Parade of Nations, an Olympic-style event held in the auditorium of Angell’s neighbor, New Life Church. Teachers and parents help the kids line up alphabetically, and when Mr. Court reads the name of their country, they get up on the stage. Mr. Court then reads a few facts about their country. Traditional dress is encouraged but not necessary. Please note: Kids who have signed up for the Parade should be at New Life Church at 6:15 p.m. in order to line up and get their country’s flag and banner.

After the Parade of Nations, we all move to Angell School for the rest of the evening’s events: the World Market, the World Buffet, and the Classroom Displays.

    2. World Market

Want to know more about other countries?  Visit the incredible displays of crafts, books, pictures, and videos of countries from around the world! This bazaar-style event is set up in the gymnasium and opens at 7:00 p.m., after the Parade of Nations.

    3. World Buffet

The World Buffet is a potluck style event with dishes representing the various parts of the world. Stop by to sample, but keep in mind this is not meant to be a substitute for dinner. This year, we have two vendors that will be offering additional food for sale - Mito’s Doner (Turkish street food) and Tmaz Taqueria (Mexican food). The Buffet will have 2 seatings by grade (come at 7:00 p.m. for Grades K-2, come at 7:45 p.m. for Grades 3-5).

If you are bringing a dish, you can drop off your dish at the parent pick-up area before going to the Parade of Nations. We will bring the dish into the school for you. Don’t forget to label your dish and its main ingredients!

    4. Classroom Displays

Don’t forget to visit the Classroom Displays on the 1st and 2nd floors of the building after the Parade of Nations. The teachers and students have been working hard on their classroom studies and the classes will set up beautiful displays. Students can pick up an International Night Passport after the Parade of Nations and get their “passports” stamped at each of the displays. They can also pick up a sheet and answer the questions about the displays. Enter the completed sheets in a raffle for a $15 gift certificate to Bookbound, a local book store!

See this presentation for more information and photos from prior events.
